More tweeting in Yorkshire

I now have two new Twitter responsibilities, for @DalesConnect, the account of the Dales Integrated Transport Alliance (DITA), and @DacreBanksPlay on a voluntary basis. My initial task, as always with a new Twitter role, is to get the ball rolling by setting up the first follows for each account and to do preliminary research in order to plan content and schedule some tweets which can be planned in advance. Happily, some of the target demographic for each account is similar to accounts I already run (such as @NTBrimhamRocks and @FriendsNiddAONB) which means that, to some extent, I can use the accounts to cross-pollinate each other with retweets, and it’s also helpful for sourcing new follows and new networks. It’s something not to abuse, of course, and each account has its specific needs and interests, but it is still handy that each account is genuinely useful to the other.

It’s also another pleasant thing about this work. It’s of genuine use to the National Trust Yorkshire rural properties, for instance, to have access to regular and reliable information about rural public transport networks and it’s nice to be in a position where I can help everyone become aware of what each other is doing.

I’m continuing to work on setting up the DalesConnect account today, which requires specifically investigating the social media presence of youth groups, schools and youth councils in order to promote DITA’s current transport campaign aimed at under 19s. Getting deeper into networks of teenagers and how they talk makes me feel older and older by the hour!

It’s also interesting to put the local connections in place. Over the weekend I set up custom searches for such lovely places as Arkengarthdale, Ribblesdale and Hawes – I can feel some day trips coming on.
